2018 at Data Republic
By Paul McCarney
What a year 2018 has been for Data Republic. As a startup, we have seen many highs and lows this year, but our drive to improve has seen major expansions in all aspects of the company.
Geographically, we have expanded by opening an office in Singapore and developing our presence in the United States, which means our own Data Republic has grown to 3 continents. In June 2018, our Singapore office was opened as part of Australia’s Singapore Landing Pad program. This was a major milestone for our team, giving us the opportunity to support Singapore’s ambition to be a world leader in the emerging data economy.
This year has also seen rapid team growth; we have welcomed 24 new ‘Data Republic Senators’, trained 6 interns and increased the diversity of our team to over 20 different nationalities. To support this growth we have implemented a number of onboarding initiatives and team bonding programs that have supported our team culture, such as an onsite counsellor to promote work/life balance, and a buddy system for new starters.
This year we have launched Senate Matching, a revolutionary privacy-preserving matching capability deployed on the Senate Platform. This world-first technology protects PII when sharing data, a highly relevant concern in the industry at this time.
Our team has worked tirelessly to improve the Senate platform experience for users this year. We have released over 250 features and gained over 500 new users who conduct on average one-new data exchange project per week. Our efforts were recognised by the industry when we were named a Gartner Cool Vendor in Information Innovation and won an Australian Fintech Award (Finnies) for Excellence in Data/AI Solutions.
To foster our ecosystem community, we have run datathons, meetups, hosted seminars, developed ebooks and partnered with technology leaders for webinars.
Finally, you may have read the news that we have recently completed our series B with 2 new strategic investors, Singtel Innov8 and Singapore Airlines. So what does that mean for us?
It means we’re going to focus, more now than ever. Focus on developing a global platform with APIs that can be integrated into data sources, products and applications, as well as focus on delivering valuable business outcomes to our customers. As we execute with these focus areas in mind, 2019 will see us continue to make data ‘more liquid’ and able to be shared, ultimately helping people make wiser decisions in a data-driven economy.
I am incredibly grateful to my team for all of their hard work this year, and for the ongoing support of my co-founder Danny. I am grateful for the support of our customers and everyone in the DR ecosystem and I continue to be grateful to our investors and Directors for their ongoing advice and support.
I look forward to working alongside you and the Data Republic team in the new year. Until then,
